Lemon Ginger Detox Tea

Today marks the start to my no refined sugar journey! I will still be making scrumptious dishes with sugar for others and for the holidays but I’ll try my darnedest not to eat them. I’m starting the morning with this hot drink. I read an article this morning while I was in bed [Sensitive Souls] . It talked about being hyper aware and having a more sensitive body. Not only to your surroundings and others feelings but also the food you eat. I have always found that if I put something in my body besides fruits, veggies and natural grains I don’t feel well at all. That’s why this morning detox drink is great.

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups boiling water

1 organic lemon cut into slices

1 in piece of ginger peeled and sliced

1/8 tsp ground turmeric

2 tsp honey [not the kind in the bear shape]

Directions

Bring water to a boil. Add lemon, ginger, honey and turmeric. Let steep for 30 minutes, strain and drink at room temperature

++•I just tecently read an amazing post about how to stay healthy in during flu season from this amazing blogger! Here’s what I found out about Lemon, Ginger and Turmeric…

~Lemons are a staple of many detox diets, and there is good reason for this. Firstly, lemons are packed with antioxidant vitamin C, which is great for the skin and for fighting disease-forming free-radicals. Furthermore, the citrus fruit has an alkaline effect on the body, it helps restore the body’s pH balance, strengthening the immune system. Try starting your day with hot water and a slice of lemon to help flush out toxins and cleanse your system.

~Ginger is a powerful antiviral root that seems to halt cold symptoms if taken early enough. Add sliced fresh ginger when making stir fries or curries, or add to teas, juices and smoothies.

~Turmeric is a yellow, rather tasteless powder, often used in curry dishes for its colour. It’s high in antioxidants and is considered nature’s anti-inflammatory. I heat a mug of coconut milk with a teaspoon of turmeric powder, a teaspoon of coconut oil and honey to sweeten.

++Just read more on why lemon/honey water every morning is amazing

•[Keeps you regular and protects from UTIs

Because this mixture when taken first thing in the morning stimulates the digestive system, as well as hydrating the colon and more, honey lemon water keeps constipation at bay. It also acts as a diuretic, cleansing the urinary tract and ensuring no urinary tract infections. I can certainly verify this one!

Improves digestion

Every part of this drink aids in the digestive process; lemons assist your liver in producing more bile so you can break down complex foods better and use the good stuff from your meals. Honey is antibacterial which protects you from any infections you might have. It also helps with the production of mucus in the stomach, helping to flush out toxins. For this reason, it also assists with healthy weight balance.

Makes you glow with health and beauty

Lemon has many benefits for skin, but it also helps purify the blood as well as aiding in the production of new blood cells that act as cleaning agents. The water and honey create a restorative, antibacterial and collagen boosting powerhouse for your skin too.]• Thanks Elephantmeditation.com
